Former Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr., who was expelled from Congress, is finally on his way back to the Philippines after being deported by Timor-Leste authorities.
According to a live broadcast by Timorese news outlet SMNews, Teves boarded a Philippine Air Force aircraft shortly after 1:00 p.m. local time on Thursday. His return marks a major development in the government’s efforts to bring him to justice.
The deportation follows Teves’ arrest earlier this week by immigration officials in Dili, Timor-Leste’s capital. The Timorese government cited national security concerns as the reason for his removal.
In response, the Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ) quickly dispatched a team to manage Teves’ repatriation and ensure a secure handover.
Teves is facing multiple charges in the Philippines, including murder and attempted murder, in connection with the 2023 assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo—an event widely referred to as the Pamplona massacre.
This extradition caps months of legal and diplomatic maneuvering and signals a critical turn in the high-profile case.
